About Caroline Miley
Caroline Miley was born in Europe and emigrated to Australia as a child. She has been writing ever since, although her ambition to write novels had to go on hold during a career as an art historian. She is a graduate of LaTrobe and Melbourne Universities and has published several non-fiction books on art, craft and social comment. History, literature, nature and art have been longstanding passions. Her motto is LP Hartley’s ‘the past is another country. They do things differently there’. It was reading Jane Austen that first attracted Caroline to the Georgian era, whose fascination is that it stands on the boundary between the old and the modern worlds, a time of limitless possibilities and energy. In her debut novel, The Competition, Caroline combined her interest in the period and its art with her enthusiasm for the history of struggles for social justice.
