Book Summary

A never-ending war. A deadly new threat. One woman’s courage is the world’s only hope…

The people of Lairheim thought the Great War had ended, until a few years later a symbiotic-pair of monsters started attacking them. To fight the monsters, the women with fire magic became warriors and the men exchanged their magic for the gift of shapeshifting.

Rizelya has been a fighter for all her life and believed she’d seen everything, until a new monster appears—one that’s much more difficult to defeat—and her people’s survival hangs in the balance. Under protest, Rizelya is sent on a quest to access the frightening new threat.

As the battles grow fiercer and more deadly, Rizelya begins to have mysterious dreams—dreams that could reveal the truth behind the thousand-year war and who is behind the onslaught of monsters. To find the answers to her growing questions, the warrior must make the treacherous journey to the home of her spiritual leader, the Supreme. But even if she finds out the truth about the war, she may not survive the journey…

If you like action-packed, magical fantasy novels, full of strong-female characters, compelling magic systems, and ferocious shapeshifters, then you’ll love Tora Moon’s Malvers War Series. Ancient Enemies is the first book in the series.

Testimonials

Ancient Enemies kept me reading far into the night. I like a good epic fantasy that follows the taken by a journey in a world filled with a magic different from most. The women are beautiful, the are men brave, and the monsters are frightening. I can’t wait for Tora Moon to finish book 2.--A. Conger

About the Author

Tora Moon writes all genres of fantasy and she especially loves to write stories which allow the reader to journey into worlds full of magic and escape their ordinary lives for a time. Ancient cultures and religions, mythology, and folklore fascinate her and find their way into her stories.

Like most fiction authors, Tora fell in love with the written word and stories when she was a child. She loved The Witch of Blackbird Pond and The Island of the Blue Dolphin. As a teenager she found Dune, Conan the Barbarian, the Xanth series, and the Dragonriders of Pern (which is still her all-time favorite series). After that, much to her mother’s literary disappointment (she studied British Literature in college), her genre of choice was fantasy, science fantasy, with a bit of science fiction thrown in.

She writes what she loves to read: all genres of fantasy, paranormal romance, and a bit of science fiction. Tora loves stories like Star Wars which mix magic and science into science fantasy. She likes a little love and romance to sweeten the pot, but not enough to make it sickly sweet.

Tora believes humanity is a new species and not the only intelligent one to inhabit this galaxy and universe and that belief flows into her stories. Most of her stories include a character or two (or a whole lot more) which aren’t humanoid and quite a few who have shape-shifting abilities.

She was a single-mother and chose a profession that would support her and her daughter: accounting, over what she loved: mythology and creative writing. Tora has had a long career in accounting, becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), having her own consulting business, and serving as the Chief Financial Officer for a publicly-held company. Her first published writing was quarterly and annual financial reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for her clients—dull reading, but it kept her fingers nimble.

Tora loves to travel and has been to several countries and likes to bring that love into her stories. She lived in Orange County, California for over twenty years before taking to the road and living in a fifth-wheel RV for several years while traveling around the western United States. Besides reading, some of her hobbies are sewing, crocheting, and making wire-wrapped jewelry. Currently, Tora makes her home in the southwestern desert with her feline companion.
