Book Summary

A Dream Transformed, Stella’s Story, in the genre of Christian historical fiction, introduces seventeen-year-old Stella Manning, who already knows her life’s purpose: to perform the dramatic spoken art of elocution on the stage. But her dream is shattered and pushed aside by her father’s dream instead, sweeping her away from her beloved Dublin to brawny, bold, and dangerous 1892 New York City. Might she find a way to trust God as she pursues a cherished dream, or will she be caught in the vortex of the evil that quickly finds and stalks her?

Tom Kane, also seeking to achieve a dream, shares his journey with his new friend Stella, and finds himself loving her more each day. But does Stella have room in her heart, filled with resentment and ambition, for a godly man? Will their dreams collide, or find a way forward together, amid a life-threatening plot that soon includes Stella?

The exciting and vibrant world of nineteenth-century elocution – a performance art form now vanished – comes to life in Stella’s search for her dream. And her journey will lead her to either love and a growing faith, or to a deadly fate.

About the Author

Barbara Beck Lovelace is a writer, publications manager, and business owner. She has written technical, academic, and business documents, but her real love has been researching and writing historic plays for performance, drawing on her MA in American history. Her first fiction novel (A Dream Transformed, Stella's Story) builds on family history to tell the reimagined story of a cherished grandmother who emigrated from Ireland in the late nineteenth century. When not writing, Barbara’s passions are enjoying time with her husband Bob, interpreting the lives of women of the past in living history settings, reading American history, and spending time with the Lord. In her blended family, she is blessed to share her life and homes in Virginia and Florida with seven grown children and fourteen grandchildren.
