Seven days to live. Four rules to follow. One Sacrifice to make.

Through cold glass walls, Naheli looks down on the altar of the ocean goddess where she will die in seven days. She doesn't mind much; the empaths have wiped her mind so clean that she hardly remembers what she once longed for. Only sometimes does she think of a colour in secret, or hum a forbidden tune.

Then her only remaining friend, the only one they haven't found yet, hands her a letter that changes everything. Forgotten feelings begin to surface, and Naheli remembers what it is like to cry, to laugh. To love. But her time is running out, and with the Sacrifice only days away, she sets out to solve the mystery of the letter -- and discovers that most of her life has been a lie, and there may be some things worth living for.

Naheli's Sacrifice is the story of one young heroine defying the powers of her dystopian world while following the path of faith. On her quest to understand the true intentions of her elemental goddess, Naheli faces fear, sorrow, and even death... and all she has is a handful of broken memories and one good friend who will stay with her till the end.

The biggest success of the book was Naheli herself. I empathized with her throughout the entire book because her thoughts and feelings flowed through so wonderfully. The progression of how she grew and changed throughout the book was authentic, complex, and thoroughly drawn. - Amazon review

Naheli's character begins as a pure, poetic, some would say a fragile soul. And yet, at the end, she is very strong and fearless. The author's description of Naheli's maturing is beautiful - subtle and vivid at the same time. - Amazon review

Naheli’s Sacrifice is Rabea Scholz’ debut novel and showcases her exquisite prose and colorful imagination. If you’re a fan of dystopian worlds and beautifully crafted tragic myths, you’ll definitely want to read this. - Ditrie Marie Bowie

About the Author

Rabea Scholz, born in 1982, loves books, spends a lot of time inside her own head, folds paper frogs, speaks three languages, writes stories full of longing and hope, teaches primary school children, studies grammar for fun, and has recently learnt how to drive. She is addicted to tea with just the right amount of milk and honey, and prefers to write at night, with everyone else asleep. In a perfect world, her day would have 48 hours of which she could spend 24 sleeping and then still have another 24 hours left for her family, for writing, reading, friends, lesson plans, pointlessly staring at the wall, carefully selected TV shows, and of course chocolate. She lives with her wife, her step-daughter, and two rabbits in Berlin, Germany.
