Hooking the reader from page one, an incredible opening has one intrigued and even confused and yet begging for more. Anticipation abounds while fantasy meets reality in equal measure.
The story unfolds as told through the eyes of its hero, the complex and funny wizard-man Nate Temple - intelligent, informed, flawed and a tad eccentric. Nate's inescapably endearing sense of humor and fatalistic wit veritably sings throughout the tale and cannot help but win the reader's heart.
Co-characters in their various guises - foremost the shape-shifting sidekick Gunnar - orbit Nate's command like colorful moths to a flame and are superbly debuted along with entertaining dialogue through the emergent plot and sub-plots.Silvers' delicious imagination has created ground-breaking magical beings that are capable of `special effects' the likes of which have never been seen before. As if character and magic were not compelling enough, the book spills much more - suspenseful drama, mystery, `spare no expense' fast paced action; it is violent, bloody, erotic, sexy and variously romantic.
