Planet Ben; Inside The World Of A Narcissist

Genre: Non Fiction

Book Summary

Are you tired of lies, broken promises, cheating and emotional game playing? Do you desperately want out of your relationship but can't seem to break away? Have you changed from the confident, happy woman you were before you met him to depressed, anxious and insecure?

That's my story too. That's life with a narcissist.

How do you know if your partner is a narcissist or whether you simply need to give it more time and patience?

In Planet Ben the reader is taken on my own journey as I enter Ben's narcissistic world, thinking I have met the man of my dreams, only to find out that I am caught up in a fairytale nightmare. This book contains my journal entries written over that first year and that show the methods a narcissist uses to set the game up - the romantic beginning (ideadlization), the game shifting (devaluations) and the constant mind games, raging and silent treatments.

You will see the struggle to understand what I am dealing with as my ideal love changes from Mr Nice to Mr Nasty. You will also witness my denial of how bad things are as I come up with endless excuses for his behavior. Along with insights into the narcissistic personality, Planet Ben provides suggestions on how to avoid making the same mistakes I did by being aware of what is going on - not only with your partner's behavior but with your own actions and reactions that keep you trapped within a narcissist's toxic love game. If you are with a narcissist you will most certainly see your own situation reflected within the pages of this book and be able to make a better informed decision as to whether you want to stay or go.

This book is absolutely incredible! It's a quick and easy read, and it really hits home in so many ways. Lots of self reflecting with this book. I can't even count how many times I would read a paragraph and think "Did we date the same person? I can completely relate! Wow, maybe I'm actually not crazy?!". This book is so important, for absolutely everyone. For those who have been in a relationship with a narcissist, it will completely give you a sense a relief, knowing someone else out there has gone through the exact same thing you have. And even for those who haven't been in a relationship with a narcissist, this is an important read so you can at least be aware. This book is definitely a must read. Looking forward to reading the next one in this series. Recommending this to everyone I know.

• This review is from: Planet Ben: Inside the World of a Narcissist (The Love Games Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
• I read Planet Ben in one sitting. Having known a few Narcissists in my time, I could not put this down. Thank God I was at home when I was reading it as I kept erupting into "OMG!! He really did that!! I bet he'll do X next!!". The book is all the more powerful and readable given it is the author's real life / real time account of her relationship with the Tall Dark and Handsome Ben. Interspersed with the narrative are the author's journal entries and emails to her best friend in the UK - these make the story richer because of their point in time painful lack of understanding of the true nature of the disordered and cruel individual she is in love with.

I can't wait for parts 2 and 3. If you are in a relationship with someone who runs hot and cold, is loving one minute, abusive the next and goes missing for days, buy this book. Buy it for a friend.

About the Author

Susan Williams is a writer, animal lover and reluctant exerciser. Childhood conditioning (an emotionally unavailable parent and schizophrenic brother) led her to develop unhealthy relationships with increasingly difficult and narcissistic men, until she encountered the ultimate wolf in sheep's clothing - Ben. Throughout this traumatic experience, Susan kept a daily journal which she decided to publish a few months after she had found enough courage to finally walk away - in order to help other women going through the same situation.

Up until this experience, Susan had been a copy writer and marketer with several books parked in a half-written state that she had never quite got around to finishing. Ironically, this painful relationship and life lesson was the catalyst to finally kick her into gear and start her writing career.

She shares her own personal journey, painful and at times funny, in the hope that other women will be empowered by her mistakes in order to learn their own lessons about relationships, boundaries, forgiveness and self love.
