5.0 out of 5 stars A nice compilation of short stories from the author of MILIJUN
January 8, 2018
Format: Kindle Edition
Full disclosure, I was provided a copy of this book by the author however have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

Released as an offering between his first novel Milijun and upcoming Saving Paludis, Silently in the Night, is a mixed bag of unique stories. While top heavy with Science Fiction shorts, as is the author’s primary genre, including an excerpt from Milijun as well as a short preview of Saving Paludis, the compilation includes several other stories that serve to prove author Clayton Graham’s skill in writing outside of his main influence. The compilation itself is not difficult to read as each story is approximately 15 minutes or less (kindle time). There were a few that stood out for me, including The Sixty Minute Warning, Old Time’s Sake and Trapped but all the stories are worth checking out. For those who are familiar with Clayton’s debut Milijun, in addition to the excerpt provided, you may also find Vanguard particularly interesting. To be completely honest, this compilation has something for everyone with stories ranging from sci-fi, action, romance horror you would be hard pressed to not find something to like about Silently in the Night.

If you are unfamiliar with this author and would like a decent primer of his work or are a fan of many genres and are looking for some short reads, I would highly recommend adding Silently in the Night to your bookshelf or e-reader.

I was given a free advanced copy to review and my opiniono are my own.
The collection of stories by Clayton Graham was just fantastic. Just when you think you have figured everything out ....Nothing Is as it seems. The stories are mind blowing and very intriguing. My curiosity was stimulated beyond belief. The flow of the book was excellent because the novel wasn't cluttered with unnecessary explanations. He grabbed my interest and I was hooked.
I hope he puts together another selection. I can't wait.
I recommend this novel for everyone. I completely enjoyed it.

This is a really nice collection of stories by the author that are a great introduction to his work. In it you will find excepts from his first book Milijun and his upcoming book Saving Paludis. Then there are some really clever short stories which are perfect for a quick read, cover various genres but are perfect as a way to get to know his style. I really enjoyed "Silently in the Night" which I thought was very clever and it has a great twist at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dystopian Futures, Murder, Excellent Sci-Fi!

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of short stories. A missing person case is not what it appears. A crashed astronaut changes the destiny of an entire planet. These were two of my favorites, but there is so much more. I especially like Graham's many different visions of the future. Several of the sci-fi stories could easily be expanded into novels. Read this, then grab yourself a copy of Milijun, a mind-bending sci-fi novel. Highly recommended!

About the Author

As a youngster growing up in the cobbled streets of Stockport, UK, Clayton Graham read a lot of Science Fiction. He loved the ‘old school’ masters such as HG Wells, Jules Verne, Isaac Asimov and John Wyndham. As he left those formative years behind, he penned short stories when he could find a rare quiet moment amidst life’s usual distractions.

He settled in Victoria, Australia, in 1982. A retired aerospace engineer who worked in structural design and research, Clayton has always had an interest in Science Fiction and where it places humankind within a universe we are only just starting to understand.
Clayton loves animals, including well behaved pets, and all the natural world, and is a member of Australian Geographic.

Combining future science with the paranormal is his passion. ‘Milijun’, his first novel, was published in 2016, and second novel ‘Saving Paludis’ was published in 2018. In between the two books, Clayton published a collection of short stories: 'Silently in the Night'.
'Saving Paludis' is light years from ‘Milijun’, but shares the future adventures of mankind in an expansive universe as a common theme.

'Amidst Alien Stars' - the sequel to 'Milijun' - was published on December 1 2020.
'Looking for Life', a novel-length collection of short Sci-Fi stories will be published in late 2020.

He hopes you can share the journeys.
